Walk/Jog, Ugh!

Okay, it's 84 degrees outside. So, a beginning jogger, I decide to go out at 1:30 for a walk/jog. Wrong. Boo. I am incredibly TIRED now. I wanted to do 4 or 5 miles, but could barely do 3.21. Tired. Actually, it's a good thing, because by the fall, I want to be able to run the 3.1 cross-country mileage in the heat of the afternoon, which will be in the high 90's. I'm not liking it now, but it'll come in handy later.

Also, I have a heart monitor. When I'm walking or sitting, it seems to register pretty fine. When I run, it is not accurate. Could it be my excess of fat or large boobage? I'm just not going to wear it for a while and see if it responds better when my weight is less.

Well, we just got back from the latest Indiana Jones installment. If you're looking for mindless entertainment, it'll work for you. The end of the movie is really a little much. It wasn't bad, but it was a little odd. Cate Blanchette is awesome as a Russian paranormal expert. Shia LaBoeuf is pretty cute too. But don't expect too much and you won't be underwhelmed.

After viewing the previews, must sees for the remainder of the summer include Kung-Fu Panda, Wall-e, and especially Wanted. Wanted is the Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy movie. James McAvoy's dad was an assassin and now they're pulling him into the family business. Did I mention Sex and the City? That's just an understood. Mr. Big, are you kidding me? He's irresistible.

Well, that's about all I've got. I've gotta make some pasta salad for a party for Dude and Hot Pant's farewell party. Enjoy your week!

Bless!

Graduation Night

How about this tray? This was the piece de resistance at our graduation party for faculty and friends. Snoopy, Fiona, and I put this together. Doesn't it look great?!? Who knew that for about 1/2 the price of the purchased tray, you can have an AMAZING tray with better quality stuff on it.

That's secondary, however. What's most important is that we had graduation last night. In our graduation, we have a rose ceremony during which the kids can give a rose to the people sitting in the "positions of honor." Mostly, that includes parents or step parents. After they made their way through the parents, they came back and a lot of the kids came back to hug Snoopy, Fiona, some others, and me. It's one of the things I love most about teaching high school students. Usually and eventually, that light that comes on and they do appreciate you, whether they pass or fail. They know who is there to help and support and who is there to receive a check. I love my babies and wish all graduates of 2008 the best!

I just spent the evening babysitting The Child. He is SO funny. We watched Evan Almighty, which is a little above the level of a 2 1/2-year old. He did enjoy the animals and the end. During the credits, when they are playing the C + C Music Factory song, he REALLY enjoyed all the silly dancing.

I'm going to bed now (9:52ish), so I'll holla back atcha later. Peace out girl and boy scouts.

Musings . . .

Well, it's a day closer to the end of the year. All my finals have been administered and it's time for grades to be calculated and everything to be put up. It's a happy and sad time for me. It's nice to have my work taken care of for a year. I'm getting to move to a new room with an ELMO, a SmartBoard, a CPS system, and other technological trinkets. The room I'm in now is a bowling alley, with no place to put a SmartBoard, so I'll be moving to a room with a closet and an office! Yipee! That's great.

Friday night is graduation. I LOVE these seniors so much. I didn't realize it until honors night. They are a nice group of relatively bright kids. I'll especially miss "my boys" who are three extremely smart, but slacker-y guys who love to argue and aggravate me. Two are going to college and one is going to the Navy.

David Cook. Winner of Idol. I love it. Archeletta (or however you spell it) is such the Mouseketeer. He's an excellent singer, but I don't like him. He's full of talent and will likely wind up on Broadway soon. Back to David Cook. His brother's bout with cancer and encouragement for Cook to try out for Idol was so sweet. At one point near the very end his brother mouthed at the camera, "That's my brother!" Supermom and I were just about crying. So sweet. I am excited to learn what David Cook will do. He's proven he'll do the unexpected, so I look forward to the results of his work.

Question regarding Idol: Do you vote based on the head-to-head competition on the final night or do you voted on the overall performance for the whole season? If you vote on that night only, David A. should have been your choice. Overall, which is what most people must've done, David C. should've won hands down.

This website is SO funny. These people's momma isn't very different from mine. I laughed SO hard at most postings. Genius.

My sister just told me that one of Steven Curtis Chapman's little girls was struck by an SUV driven by a teenage brother. This echoes what Rick Burgess went through earlier this year. So sad and so UN-understandable. I'm praying that grace be given in this situation to all concerned. I know it will.

1 Down 4 to Go!

With the kids, we have 4 days left. Technically, it's 3 1/2, since Friday is an early release day. I'm REALLY excited about this.

Today I arrived to find profanity sprayed on the school and trash strewn in the doorway. The smart people who committed this demanded that we, the teachers, commit certain lewd acts. I decided I'd take a pass on that. These people are awesome. They know how to spell the f-word, but can't spell our principal's name.

Well, I ran/walked the 5K in 46 minutes 40 seconds. People who full-out run do this in twenty-something minutes, but for my first time, it was good. We enjoyed Tybee on after the race on Saturday, ate at Spanky's, and were back in the hotel in bed at about 9:30. We are animals.

Lovely day!

Almost Over

Well, another year is almost over. It's been a very good school year. It will be SO nice to have a few weeks of whatever.

But. . . before that, this weekend. I'm SO excited. Here are the plans:

1) Friday afternoon -- golf (9 holes) & maybe an appearance at spring football scrimmage

2) Friday night -- spend the night with Snoopy

3) Saturday morning -- leave 6ish for Savannah and Sand Gnat Trot 5K!

4) Remainder of Saturday -- Tybee!!!

5) Sunday morning -- go to Hilton Head for shopping

6) Monday morning -- wear 5K shirt to school

One of my students found out that I was running in a 5K and asked Snoopy, "Does she know how far that is?" When I confronted her, she just laughed hysterically. . . and so did I!

How fun does that sound?!? I'm totally psyched! I'll be sure to get a photo of the finish.

Mr. Obama

Wow, I saw a guy who conducted a focus-group. He was being interviewed on Fox News. There were people talking about the Barack Obama/Reverend Wright deal. They were about to come to blows over this. It was crazy. What was funny (funny odd, not funny ha-ha) to me is that there are people who actually think that it was okay for Mr. Obama to remain in a church where the pastor had such views. I understand that maybe you don't know ALL that your pastor believes. I also understand that there may be many things that you don't agree with while "sitting under" a pastor. But knowing about these views, and having gone to church myself, I am shocked that he would remain. It's weird to me, but then again, I'm not going to church now myself.

I'm very afraid what is going to happen this summer. I have a very sad feeling that this election is going to do a very good job of tearing our nation apart.

Monday & a Good One

Okay, today was really a surprisingly good day. Dude and I went to school later than usual. We then came home around 3:30. Then I came home, watched a few DVRed items, including The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (see picture). HE IS THE FUNNIEST GUY ON TV INCLUDING EVERYBODY.

I then took a nap for an hour-and-a-half after which I went outside and ran and walked 3.21 miles in prep for my 5K on the 17th. I'm really excited, but am gonna have to gear it up with the outside running deal.

The Dennis Miller Radio Show is now on a local AM station. This is GREAT. The grumpy financial guy who seemed to enjoy making people feel stupid is no longer on. I've got to e-mail the show and the radio station and tell them how much I LOVE this brilliant move. It'll be off in less than a month, probably.

Incidentally, Iron Man creator, Stan Lee was on the program with Dennis today. He, too, loved the movie and said that he felt that Robert Downey, Jr. did a great job in the role. I must concur.

A Little Wackiness

What do you see at Wal*Mart when water gets low?

Snoopy and I laughed when we saw what that was on the shelf, w-a-a-a-a-y at the back, where water should have been. Dorothy, did you diversify into other colors and add a peep-toe? Nicely played, madame.

Iron Man is the movie. You must go see it. I have always, even through the stage when he went in a neighborhood and went to sleep in a little girl's bed because he was so addicted, liked him. He proves, yet again, that he's a genius. This movie won't be an Academy Award winner, except for special effects or something like that, but it's a good one. It's not really that bad either. There's an innuendo of a night spent together, some pseudo-stripping, a guy getting sloshed, and some language, but it's pretty clean.
Can you tell I like it? I do. You will too, if you bring your sense of humor and suspendable disbelief.

I did an interval workout on the treadmill, 2.82 miles, and then BodyPump. It was invigorating. Yeah, yeah. It's been so long since I've BodyPumped, I'm already sore. Gonna go to bed.

Grrr! 02

Take a good look at the woman in the picture above. If you see her, RUN! She has a terminal case of SILLY. She is unwatchable. I've had my fill of Paula Deen and the woman in the picture's trying to do that whole thing in Memphis that Paula did in Savannah. Her husband Pat is such a nice guy. You can argue that he married her, so he's just as bad as she is. I'd have to agree with you on that one.

How do such nice, seemingly-normal people get hooked in with weirdos? I wish I knew because I could make money stopping these unholy alliances from occurring. Actually, the funny thing is that there are people who, if they read this, could be one of the people married to a CrAzY and have NO IDEA that they were one of the people I'm talking about. I guess if you live with CrAzY every day, it becomes your normal. Again, reason #22, 793 that I'm glad I'm not married.

Next rant: Why is the Food Network canceling Dinner Impossible? I am so peeved with this. It is clearly the most compelling show on the network. I have culled my watching of this channel to only Dinner Impossible, Ace of Cakes, and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Everything else has become so silly. Back to my rant, so, Robert Irvine lied on his resume. Well, he doesn't need to be commended for that, but he is SO good on the show. I don't care whether he worked for the queen or not. He should have realized that people on this side of the pond don't really care about that type of stuff.

Today, I am going to BodyPump for the first time in a month, maybe. I am dreading this. I know that it'll be good for me, but I don't want to go. I'm going ahead and doing my cardio. Ugh. I don't want to. The only thing that is making me go is that if I don't go, I won't allow myself to go see Iron Man. I am planning on doing this late this afternoon.

I've Been Bitten

These are on their way to me. Why, pray tell am I getting these? Yes, you're a genius. I am now a golfer. How about I played 9 holes of golf on Friday and am now ready. My shoes are not black, but taupe accented. Golf is more physical than I wanted it to be. This includes the riding in the cart, incidentally.
More to come on this developing story. . .
